Introduction

My name is Collette and welcome to my website.

You will probably find that this site becomes an eclectic mix of things that interest me.  I enjoy photography, although I am not really much good at it.  Thankfully I only work in digital so I don't have to worry about film, processing and being careful how many attempts I need to make before I get an image which is acceptable to me.

I have just embarked on a life-long project and I hope that you will find it interesting.  11/11/2018 saw the centenary of the ending of World War I.  There are now very few remaining survivors of this war.  I was lucky enough to attend one of the 1200 beacon lighting ceremonies whilst I was away on holiday.  It was such a moving event that this prompted me to think about what I could do to honour those who paid the ultimate sacrifice and gave their lives in order that I could grow up and live in a free country.

Having just spent a day learning the art of pinhole photography, I thought I would start a project to photograph every Commonwealth War Grave that I find whilst on holiday or out and about.  Rather than just photograph the headstone, I have decided to do some research so that there will be details of the person, a brief description of them (the usual - rank, number and which service they served in) and then if possible provide a little more detail about them and where they came from.  Also there will be pictures of the graveyard or church yard where they are buried and a short history of that location.

The project will also encompass other memorials to fallen service personnel in other conflicts and civilians commemorated for having lost their lives as a direct result of enemy attack during World War 2

Site dedicated to those who have bravely given their lives in the defence of this country and which has given us all the freedoms we enjoy to this day.

Thanks to those who have helped me with my War Graves Project - without whom I would not have found so much interesting information that turns each name into a real person rather than just another name on a headstone. Click here to go to the list of contributors

About Me

I was born in 1963 and am married to Glenn.  I work full time but in my spare time my main hobbies are photography and cycling.  We often spend our holidays visiting places in the UK in our little campervan.  We plan to retire to Yorkshire so that we will be close to the places that we love to visit most.
